Full-day wedding photography in Washington, DC costs about $3000 to $8000 for eight hours in 2026, based on published DC-area packages checked October 19, 2026, and custom coverage can start at $10000. Mantas Kubilinskas, a DC documentary wedding photographer, offers full-day collections starting at $4900, travel and taxes included.
A useful starting budget is the price of a package that covers your day, plus the extras you need. Compare photographers using the same hours and team size. A $4000 solo collection and a $7400 collection with two photographers and an engagement session buy different services.
All amounts are in US dollars. The local examples are advertised prices checked October 19, 2026. Some studios now advertise later wedding seasons, so confirm the rate and availability for your event date.
Who this guide is for
Couples planning a wedding in Washington, DC, Northern Virginia or Maryland who want a realistic photography budget before they ask for quotes. It is most useful if you want a full day covered, from getting ready through the reception, and you care about candid, documentary photographs as much as portraits.
Who it is not for
If you need an hourly rate for a short portrait or event booking, this guide will not help much, because it is about full wedding coverage. If you want a heavily posed wedding built around a long shot list, my documentary approach is probably not the right fit, though the price comparisons below still apply.

How much does Mantas Kubilinskas charge for a DC wedding?
My full-day wedding collections start at $4900, travel and taxes included, and include eight hours of coverage. I put together a written proposal for each wedding so the coverage fits your timeline, venue and the moments that matter most to you.
Every wedding collection includes:
Travel and taxes, so there are no surprise line items.
A complimentary 15-minute discovery call before you book.
Curated highlights within 48 hours of the wedding.
A hand-edited gallery in 6 to 8 weeks. Most full wedding days produce 700 to 900 edited images.
A private online gallery for downloading, sharing and ordering prints, with no watermarks.
Full insurance, plus backup cameras, lenses and storage on the day.
Priced in your proposal:
Fine art albums and prints, which can be added after your gallery is delivered.
Destination weddings and elopements, quoted separately.
Before you book, you can ask to see a full wedding gallery from start to finish. That shows how I cover a whole day, not just the highlights.
What do DC wedding photographers charge in 2026?
The published examples span several budgets. Eight-hour options include $3000 from Mark Sapp, $4000 for one photographer from Images By Geneva, and a $5400 starting price from Jessica Nazarova. At the higher end, Maggie Morris lists eight hours from $8000, while Kathleen Baker lists custom wedding coverage from $10000.
Photographer and source | Advertised price | Coverage and inclusions shown |
|---|---|---|
From $3000 | Eight hours; engagement session; digital and film coverage | |
$4000 | Eight hours; one photographer; engagement session | |
$5000 | Eight hours; second photographer; engagement session | |
From $5400 | Eight hours; editing and digital images | |
$7400 | Nine hours; two photographers; engagement session | |
From $8000 | Eight hours; digital gallery, printing rights and some 35mm film | |
From $10000 | Custom wedding coverage; confirm hours and team in the proposal |
Prices checked October 19, 2026. Maggie Morris states that full-size 2026 weddings are fully booked and advertises 2027 bookings. Images By Geneva advertises 2027 and 2028 bookings. These pages provide current price references; confirm availability, taxes, travel and team hours for your date.
For an eight-hour wedding, you can use these examples to build a shortlist around $3000 to $5500, or compare options around $7000 to $8000 when the photographer's work and included scope fit your priorities. Custom collections may start at $10000 or more. These are comparison bands drawn from this small sample, not quality rankings or a claim about what most DC couples spend.
How were these DC wedding photography prices researched?
This comparison records seven advertised package examples from five studios' public pricing pages, checked October 19, 2026. Five entries specify eight hours of coverage across four studios; Images By Geneva contributes two different packages. Jessica Nazarova's $7400 entry covers nine hours. Kathleen Baker's custom coverage starts at $10000, with hours to confirm in a proposal.
This is a convenience sample of published offers. It excludes private quotes and does not measure completed bookings, a citywide mean or what most couples paid. Package inclusions and booking years differ. Prices marked “from” remain starting rates. Confirm taxes, travel and any required extras with each studio. National survey figures appear separately with their publishers' study dates; they do not supply a 2026 DC average.
Price sources, checked October 19, 2026: Mark Sapp, Geneva: one photographer, Geneva: second photographer, Jessica Nazarova and Maggie Morris. Starting prices and inclusions follow each source.

What is the national average wedding photographer cost?
The Knot's cost guide, updated May 8, 2026, reports a $3000 US average and a $3800 Mid-Atlantic average. Its latest study surveyed 10,474 US couples married in 2025. Those are retrospective spending figures, not a survey of completed 2026 DC weddings.
Zola's wedding photographer cost guide, updated February 19, 2026, reports a $4400 national average, with a typical range of $3500 to $5300. Zola identifies its Wedding Cost Index as the source. The two publishers report different benchmarks; neither number establishes a Washington, DC average.
Use national data to understand the broad scale of the expense. Use local proposals to decide what to reserve for your wedding. Dividing a package by eight hours also gives an incomplete hourly comparison: a wedding fee can include planning, image selection, editing and delivery beyond the time spent photographing the day.

How much should you budget for a smaller DC wedding?
Shorter coverage can cost less than a full wedding day. Mark Sapp advertises a two-hour elopement collection from $500 and four-hour intimate wedding coverage from $1200. Images By Geneva lists one-hour elopement coverage at $850 and two hours at $1250 on its elopement pricing page. These are specific studio examples, not a universal elopement price range.
Ask what the shorter booking includes and which dates qualify. A ceremony followed by portraits has a different timeline from a ceremony, family photographs, a transfer and a restaurant reception. A small guest list can still require a long coverage window. Sketch the day before choosing the number of hours.
For ideas about planning an intimate celebration, read the DC elopement photographer guide. Confirm availability and the terms for your date with the photographer you choose.

What changes the price of wedding photography in DC?
Coverage hours and locations
Start with the first moment you want photographed and the last. A getting-ready story, ceremony, portraits and evening reception can need a longer window than ceremony-and-portrait coverage. Build transfers into that window. Preparation in Georgetown, a ceremony downtown and a reception in Northern Virginia require a different schedule from a wedding held in one building.
Ask whether coverage runs continuously, how overtime is approved and what an additional hour costs. Discuss a rain plan and allow time for family groups. For portraits away from the venue, check access and any permit requirements with the location manager before treating a stop as part of the schedule.
Historic venues like Meridian House
Historic DC venues like Meridian House add planning work that shows up in the coverage plan, even when it does not change the price. Before the wedding I scout the venue and study how light moves through it, then plan portrait locations, timing and the walk between spaces. At Meridian House that means the gardens, the indoor rooms and a weather backup for outdoor portraits. When you compare photographers, ask each one how they handle the venue's vendor rules, the move between indoor and outdoor spaces, rain, and when you will receive your gallery.
“Mantas made the camera disappear, then gave us the quiet, in-between moments we did not even realize we would miss most.” Caroline and William, Meridian House, 2026
For venue details, read my Meridian House wedding guide. For a full list of questions to ask, see how to choose a Washington DC wedding photographer.

One photographer or two
A second photographer can cover simultaneous preparations or another angle during the ceremony. Ask how many hours that person attends and whether the quoted fee includes their editing and delivery. An assistant who handles equipment is a different role; have the proposal name the service you are paying for.
A second photographer's cost depends on the studio and the hours. On October 19, 2026, Jessica Nazarova listed the add-on from $700 and Maggie Morris listed $1500 for the day. Whoever you hire, ask how many hours the second photographer attends and whether the fee includes their editing and delivery.

Engagement sessions, albums and other events
Engagement sessions may be included in a wedding collection or priced as an add-on. Jessica Nazarova lists sessions from $800 and includes one in her $7400 nine-hour collection. Maggie Morris lists a $750 wedding add-on. These advertised amounts were checked October 19, 2026. Confirm session length, location and travel; an included session does not guarantee a matching discount if you remove it.
Albums and printed products can also change the total. Check size, page count, design revisions and delivery costs. Welcome-party, rehearsal-dinner and multi-day coverage need their own stated scope. Compare a photography-only quote with another photography-only quote before weighing a package that also includes video.

The photographer's work and service
Review complete weddings as well as portfolio highlights. Read what a candid wedding gallery contains to assess the finished selection. Look at indoor ceremonies, family groups, changing light and evening receptions. Decide whether you like the photographer's direction during portraits and their approach to candid moments. A higher fee does not tell you whether that approach suits you.
Ask about backup equipment, image backups and the plan if the photographer cannot attend. Confirm the gallery delivery deadline, editing scope and personal printing permissions in the agreement. These details help you compare the service behind the headline price. The wedding photography portfolio is a starting point for reviewing my work. See my wedding photography FAQs for answers about gallery delivery, backup equipment and booking.

How do you compare two wedding photography quotes?
Send each photographer the same brief: your date, venues, estimated coverage window, guest count and any additional events. Describe the photographs that matter most to you. Then compare the total for that scope, including required extras and applicable taxes.
Use this checklist when you review each proposal:
Exact start and finish times, continuous coverage terms and the overtime rate.
Lead photographer's identity, team size and each person's coverage hours.
Engagement session, film, albums or other products included in the price.
Travel, parking, accommodation and location costs, with responsibility for each.
Editing scope, gallery delivery deadline, download access and printing permissions.
Retainer, payment schedule, cancellation terms and the replacement-photographer plan.
A worked comparison can make the decision clearer. If one written quote is $4500 and the second is $6000, first check whether both cover the same events and deliverables. Add only the extras you would purchase. A $1500 difference may buy more hours or a larger team, but the proposals need to show that difference before you can judge its value.
The companion DC wedding photographer prices and coverage guide goes further into planning the hours around your day. This article provides the market references; your proposal establishes your booking price.

How can you reduce the cost without losing the photographs you want?
Choose the moments you want covered before cutting hours. You might prefer ceremony, family portraits and part of the reception over a longer getting-ready story. Ask a photographer to price that specific window, and check whether a minimum booking applies to your date.
You can also ask about ordering an album later or booking fewer separate events. Request the revised total before assuming that removing an inclusion reduces the price. If you have flexibility on the date, ask about availability and rates; a weekday or quieter month does not guarantee a discount.
Keep enough time for travel and the portraits you care about. A lower total is useful when the revised plan still fits your day. For more questions about evaluating a photographer, see how to choose a Washington DC wedding photographer.
