A beautiful moment between a bride and groom on their wedding day at Blackwall Hitch. They are standing close together…

These photographs document Dylan and Christina’s wedding at Blackwall Hitch in Alexandria. The gallery is a record of their celebration; the planning notes below refer to the Alexandria venue and should be confirmed for a new wedding date.

Confirm the Alexandria space before planning the timeline

Blackwall Hitch operates in more than one city, and the event rooms are different. For this venue, use the Alexandria wedding information at 5 Cameron Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Its current official wedding page describes an Alexandria waterfront setting and a private Captain’s Quarters room overlooking the Dockside Patio and waterfront. Check which rooms and outdoor areas are included in your booking, where guests will gather, and how that arrangement changes in rain.

The current Alexandria page describes its Captain’s Quarters as a private room overlooking the Dockside Patio and Alexandria Waterfront, with capacity listed as 35 seated or 45 standing. Those figures describe that room, not a promise about a complete wedding layout. Ask the venue to confirm a plan that includes any ceremony seating, dinner tables, bar service and dance floor you need. Do not use Annapolis room names or capacities when planning this wedding.

Plan photographs around the actual rooms and weather

Before choosing a portrait time, establish the ceremony location, the route guests will use and where the couple can step away briefly. Window light and waterfront backgrounds can be useful, but the available light changes with the room, season and weather. Leave time for a short portrait session without making guests wait through a long gap.

For rain or colder weather, agree on an indoor portrait option and the actual guest shelter included in your booking. A heated rooftop tent described for a different Blackwall Hitch location is not a confirmed Alexandria backup plan. A wedding can still be photographed well indoors when the timeline and lighting plan account for it.

Coordinate the reception details

The Alexandria wedding page offers plated, buffet and station menu formats. Treat those as starting points for a conversation with its team, rather than as a record of Dylan and Christina’s menu. Confirm the service schedule, speeches, music setup and any access needed for photographs before the day. Keep the first dance and toasts connected to the guest experience, with enough room for everyone to see.

What the Alexandria waterfront adds to a wedding gallery

Dylan and Christina's Blackwall Hitch photographs belong to the Alexandria location, not to one of the similarly named restaurants in another city. That distinction matters when planning a new wedding. The waterfront can provide context in a wider frame, but the people gathered for the celebration should still lead the story.

A good sequence can move from room details and family interactions to a handful of portraits outside, then back to the energy of the reception. I would not build the day around every possible waterfront angle. Pick an outdoor location approved by the venue and allow enough time to return before speeches or dinner begin.

Ask the event team which rooms and terrace areas are actually included in your reservation, what happens if rain changes the portrait plan and whether another event will be using a nearby space. Knowing those answers means the photographer can focus on reactions instead of solving access problems while guests are waiting.
