I photographed Jesse and Linda at home and in their mural-filled Washington, DC neighborhood before they moved to Germany. After six years in the city, they wanted photographs of the places and small details that made their life here feel familiar.

A Washington, DC story built around familiar places

On the streets, portraits beside murals sit alongside a stop outside Ben’s Chili Bowl. I photographed the couple looking toward each other, laughing, and walking hand in hand. The route shows the neighborhood as they knew it, with time for posed portraits and spontaneous gestures.

Home and neighborhood, together

Jesse and Linda wanted to remember both their home and the neighborhood where they had lived for six years. I photographed them with familiar objects at home, then outside among murals, storefronts, brick steps, and street corners. Each setting adds context to the portraits while leaving room for the couple to be themselves.

The gallery moves between a laugh, an embrace beneath a mural, and a walk past familiar storefronts. These everyday settings keep the photographs tied to the place Jesse and Linda were leaving.

Plan a Washington, DC farewell photo session

Start with what you want to remember: a room at home, a neighborhood walk, a mural, or a familiar storefront. A simple route gives the photographs a clear setting and leaves room for the session to unfold naturally.

  • Choose a few meaningful places, such as a home, a favorite block, or a mural you pass often.

  • Tell your photographer which rooms and personal details are okay to photograph, and which should remain private.

  • Check access and photography rules for any business or managed location before building the route around it.

  • Leave time for walking between stops and agree on a backup plan for weather.
