How many guests can Whittemore House accommodate?

The venue's wedding page gives a dinner capacity of up to 180 guests. A dinner limit is not a promise that your ceremony, band, dance floor and tables will all fit the same arrangement.

Ask to see a layout based on your actual guest count, including the entertainment and any tables that remain during dancing. For a smaller celebration, ask which rooms suit your numbers and whether guests will stay together or move between spaces.

For photography, identify where family groups can gather without blocking arrivals. A short route between preparations, ceremony and portraits leaves more time with your guests.

Can we have a courtyard ceremony, and what happens if it rains?

The venue offers courtyard ceremonies. Before choosing that option, agree the indoor alternative, who makes the weather decision and when guests and suppliers will be told.

Ask whether a room change affects the ceremony backdrop, seating, sound setup or preparation space. An indoor backup should be a usable plan, not simply a room name on the proposal.

For portraits, choose an approved indoor location as well as an outdoor one. I plan around the available light and guest route so that a change of weather does not require rebuilding the whole photography schedule.

Where is Whittemore House, and how should guests arrive?

Whittemore House is at 1526 New Hampshire Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20036. WNDC's directions page identifies wheelchair access via Q Street NW. Ask the venue to confirm the route from that entrance to each room in your wedding plan.

Give guests the agreed entrance and arrival time, not just the street address. Check parking availability for your date and share transport or drop-off arrangements. Do not assume a nearby garage will have spaces or that public office hours describe wedding access.

Planning Whittemore House wedding photography

The photographs should show what the day felt like, as well as where it happened. Window light, bookshelves and architectural details give portraits a sense of place; hugs, quiet reactions and dancing make the gallery personal.

When we plan your coverage, I start with your fixed ceremony and reception times, then work through the following sequence. This is a photography planning checklist, not a venue rental schedule.

A practical photography sequence

1. Preparations: identify a permitted space with useful window light. Keep the area for final details reasonably clear, and tell the people helping you when photographs begin.

2. Family photographs: agree a short group list and nominate someone who knows the guests to help gather them. Choose a meeting point that does not obstruct the ceremony or reception route.

3. Couple portraits: decide whether portraits happen before the ceremony, afterward or in a short gap during the reception. Agree an indoor option and allow breathing room for moving between locations.

4. Ceremony and reception: confirm where photography is permitted and any restrictions on movement or lighting. Leave space in the plan for greetings, speeches and the spontaneous moments between formal events.

5. Evening portraits: if you want a brief outdoor photograph, discuss access and timing beforehand. It should fit naturally into the celebration, not keep you away from guests for a long stretch.

Confirm permission for photographs near artwork, furnishings and any rooms outside your booking. The rooms used in this gallery are inspiration, not a guarantee that every space will be available on your date.
