5 Best Photo Locations in Mauritius for Couples
Updated: Oct 26

These five Mauritius photo locations offer different ways to frame a couple: a mountain backdrop, colored-earth textures, a rocky coast, forest layers and a lagoon. Choose the scenery you want first, then check the access, opening hours and permissions for the session you are planning.

Le Morne: mountain scale and space around the couple

A mountain backdrop can give a portrait scale while leaving the people small within the frame. A coastal view and a hike on Le Morne are separate plans. If you want the trail, check its current status and requirements with the Le Morne Heritage Trust. General published hours and an older closure notice do not establish today’s opening, and hiking access does not settle commercial photography permission.

Chamarel: color and texture within the permitted viewpoints

Chamarel’s colored earth offers a different palette from a beach. Its Code of Conduct allows recreational photographs but requires prior management approval for commercial photography or video. Stay on marked paths and around the earth’s perimeter. A ticket does not permit a commercial session or entry onto the dunes.

The operator’s opening information starts at 08:30, so a dawn entry should not be assumed. Confirm the session time and what admission includes. Waterfall viewpoints and separately booked activities have different access.

Gris Gris: coastline and movement

Air Mauritius’s guide to Gris Gris describes sea cliffs and strong waves on a coast without reef protection. That exposed setting can add movement to portraits, but it calls for a careful working position. Check conditions and access before the session, and confirm any commercial-photography requirements with the relevant manager.

Black River Gorges: forest layers and quieter framing

Forest backgrounds give the photographs shade, depth and a different pace from an open coastline. The government’s park visitor guide permits visitor photographs and asks people to stay on tracks and avoid disturbing wildlife. Confirm the approval needed for a professional session and the route you intend to use. Historic photographs near water do not establish permission to leave a trail.

Pointe d’Esny: simple compositions beside the lagoon

The Government of Mauritius’s Pointe d’Esny profile identifies a 21.5-hectare coastal wetland and Ramsar site with mangroves, coastal fish, and migratory and shore birds. A lagoon portrait can stay simple while giving the habitat room. Confirm your route and photography requirements before the session.

Pointe d’Esny | Lagoon and coastal wetland | Confirm the entry route and photography requirements; avoid disturbing habitat. |

How should you choose the time and location?

Use these three checks to match a location to your session:

Choose the backdrop first: mountain scale, colored earth, exposed coast, forest, or lagoon.
Confirm the exact route, opening times where relevant, and photography requirements with the responsible site manager.
Set the session time around access, walking, and the weather for your chosen place.

A shorter route leaves more room for the session and for changes in cloud, wind, or access. Sunrise is one option, not a plan that fits every location.
